The control of groups of visitors, guided and unguided, is performed daily at the Santa Rosa Control Point.

Results

The Santa Rosa Control Point is located on the (only) road that crosses Santa Cruz Island. From there it is possible to monitor groups of guided and unguided visitors, on a daily basis, who visit different areas of the Terrestrial Park and the Galapagos Marine Reserve, to verify compliance with regulations and standards established to perform such activities.

A marked change can be seen starting in 2007, when the growth trend in guided groups that come to Santa Cruz is reversed, and the number of tourists without a guide rapidly increases.

These changes can be explained by the increased number of visitors to the Islands, many of whom choose to spend time in hotels, instead of taking guided tours.
