Galapagos National Park presents a new recreational bike lane project in Puerto Ayora

The Minister of the Environment will now attempt to raise the funds to complete the project.

The project was presented to the Minister of Environment and members of the community by the consultants.

The Galapagos National Park directorate (DPNG) recently described their plan to strengthen the relationship between bike riders and their natural surroundings and to improve their safety. The streets of Puerto Ayora have recently seen a dramatic increase in vehicle traffic, and the bike path will help ease concerns caused by this development. A consulting firm hired by DPNG elaborated a technical project geared to implement and execute a recreational bike lane.

The project will connect Puerto Ayora with Bellavista, the two most important towns in Santa Cruz. It will increase mobility while showing respect towards nature and help return a historic identity of Galapagos by diverting some traffic to a pre-vehicle era.

The project includes the construction of a 12.17 kilometre bike lane, encompassing a rural, urban, and walking route, for approximately 1.6 million dollars.

The project plan was presented to the Ecuadorean Minister of the Environment during her recent visit to the archipelago. The Galapagos National Park directorate respectfully requested that she remit the project to the Minister of Sports and Public Work and obtain the funds necessary to build the path.
